Hot News Today is about Pennsylvania Slayings May Have Been Linked To Insurance Scam
The man suspected of ruthlessly shooting five people in Pennsylvania, killing two, has reportedly been found dead by police. The manhunt for the suspect led from the scene of the crime, in rural Douglass Township, to the house of 51-year-old Mark Geisenheyner, outside of Philadelphia.
SWAT teams surrounded the house Monday and cornered Geisenheyner, who was armed with a .45 caliber handgun, in his basement. After six hours of negotiations, the NY Daily News reports, Geisenheyner was shot and killed. It is still unclear whether officers shot him or he took his own life.
Geisenheyner has a lengthy criminal record in both New York and Massachusetts. According to published reports, Geisenheyner may have been involved in an insurance scam with one of his victims, Paul Shay, that landed him in jail. Geisenheyner was released from prison a year ago and often mentioned his desire to take revenge on Shay, according to reports.
Saturday evening Geisenheyner, using a .22 caliber pistol, took his revenge, police said. Around 10:30 that evening he broke into the Shays' farmhouse and killed 43-year-old Joseph Shay from Yarmouth, Mass., and New York City, and 2-year-old Gregory Erdmann, from Fall River, Mass.
Geisenheyner also allegedly shot 37-year-old Kathryn Erdmann, Gregory's mother, and the owners of the farmhouse, 64-year-old Paul Shay and 58-year-old Monica Shay -- all three of whom are in critical condition with gunshot wounds to the head. They are reportedly being treated at Lehigh Valley Hospital.
It has been reported that Monica Shay bought the farmhouse from her mother, and that she and her husband Paul often went there on weekends from their home in East Manhattan. Monica Shay works as the director of the arts and cultural management program at Pratt Institute and her husband owns a plumbing company.
